Ok the story is my hair is a natural kinda dark blonde... now its a light blonde but my roots have grown out over an inch and i want to go a bit lighter... so if i use a home kit to go about 3 shades lighter will it become brassy and will it even out my darker roots or will they still be darkerBlonde hair coloring?
It depends on the kind of blonder. I would suggest getting a 30 Minute Blonding kit. They sell them in proffesional salaon stores. But yes it should even out just heat more of the roots then other hair.Or go a few shades lighter on the roots.Blonde hair coloring?
You could still bleach or dye your hair blonde. I suggest going to sallys and getting some toner. That will eliminate the brassyness and any other unwanted color giving you a nice blonde color

Blonde Hair Coloring?
I'm going to be getting my hair colored at the salon this week (again, over a dark red/brown color) and I wondered if it would be possible (and look right) to dye it blonde.
I am aware that the stylist would have to bleach my hair before they colored it and would this be too much damage for my already damaged hair to take?
Also, I am caucasian with a medium skin tone, dark brown eyes and light brown eyebrows. My hair is wavy/curly and falls roughly 3 inches below my shoulders. My natural hair color is a light to medium brown.

I think if you went blonde right away it may be too much for your hair to take. I would not go for all out bleaching that really would be to hard on your hair if it's dry %26amp; damaged. Try med hi-lites for now and start a deep conditioning treatment. Within a few weeks you'll be ready for all over lighting.

just purchased 30 volume ';quick white'; powder at sally's with a 30 volume developer. it says on the bottle not to let the dye touch the scalp, but i'm not sure how to apply it and color the roots without having it touch the skin. what should i do?Blonde Hair Coloring?

I'd say no. I'm a hairdresser and I have this conversation with my clients all the time. Not everyone is meant to be blonde. I actually think you would look better with DARKER hair (and a new haircut, as your fringe is somewhat uneven and it needs to be a little shorter). I would love to get my hands on your hair. I would do an all-over warm brown color. Just like a really rich mocha color. Then just through the top, I'd put really fine dark blonde highlights....not anything golden blonde but something just a few shades lighter than the all over mocha. I'd do it like a partial foil just through the top and sides just to break up the all over color and make the color a little more personalized. You'd have very fine, natural looking dark blonde highlights. This would look more natural and go much better with your skin tone. And by keeping the blonde somewhat darker than the typical beachy summer blonde, it would grow out better and you wouldn't have such noticeable outgrowth and, thus, could go longer inbetween retouches. Your hair would also not look like you have to go get it colored, which is always great for people who want to be blonde. Then I'd take your hair up a few inches, about an inch above the shoulders. It would great with a lot of layers. It was kind of hard to see the layers in the pic you gave, but I'd probably start the layers right at the cheek bone. It will give the hair more interest, and frame your face more. I would connect the fringe (bangs) to the rest and you'd have all these funky, gorgeous pieces that would hide when all your hair is down and fall out around your face when you put it up in a pony tail. So yes, if you stayed a darker blonde (tell your hairdresser you want level 7/8 highlights) with a mocha brown base (tell your hairdresser you want the base/main color to be a level 4/5 mocha or level 5 warm) then you could pull off a blonde. But if you're thinking Jessica Simpson/Paris Hilton blonde, I'd say no, you couldn't be a blonde, even with the tan. I'm a natural blonde and even I color it darker just because of the undertones of my skin. You have the same undertones I do and that's the biggest reason I'd say no to being blonde. A good example of the haircolor is Jessica Alba, although I'd keep your blonde highlights a little less golden than hers are right now.

Red hair would look better on you. Blonde is too common as is brown. Dye it a natrual red though. It bugs me when people dye it that fake blood red color. Dye it the way redheads look. Their IS a difference between having red hair and being a red head. Having red hair is just having red hair and not looking like it really belongs. Being a red head is having the porcelin skin tone, the curly/wavy cascading locks of coppery red flowing down your back. Red hair is unique and less than 5% of the population has natural red hair. Brown hair is poop color and blonde is just plain boring and ugly. Please don't get a spray tan though--they are ugly too.

I've gotten highlights and lowlights a couple of times and right now it's been a while since I've gotten it done and it's looking really fake yellow. Would I look good blonde? hair coloring advice helpful :)?
I've always wanted to go blonde but I don't know if it would look good with my skin tone. maybe some highlights? my skin is getting slowly but surely darker from tanning (I know it's bad for my but I use an oil with spf)

You would look good as a blonde. I think that everyone can go lighter, the right shade is just very important.
You would look best with a GOLDEN BLONDE color, if the color of your skin is the same as in your picture.
From what I can see in your picture you have red in your hair now. I would suggest that you get your hair done by a professional. The red in your hair could easily become brassy and orange when you lighten it.
You would not look good with icy blonde or ashy blonde hair. You should stick with blondes that have a golden base. If you decided that you want to go all blonde, not just highlights, which I think would look really cute on you, your eyebrows look like a good color for a natural blonde. This is good because it won't look as harsh as someone who has black eyebrows. You could always lighten them too if they make you feel self conscious.
I continually switch my hair from blonde to brown. My natural color is dark brown. Being blonde makes me happy. It is always a good change. Just make sure that you do not end up with orange hair. And you are going to have to moisturize it a lot if you need to bleach it to turn it blonde. (which with that red in your hair I am sure you will have to)

You would look good as a blonde. I think that everyone can go lighter, the right shade is just very important.
You would look best with a GOLDEN BLONDE color, if the color of your skin is the same as in your picture.
From what I can see in your picture you have red in your hair now. I would suggest that you get your hair done by a professional. The red in your hair could easily become brassy and orange when you lighten it.
You would not look good with icy blonde or ashy blonde hair. You should stick with blondes that have a golden base. If you decided that you want to go all blonde, not just highlights, which I think would look really cute on you, your eyebrows look like a good color for a natural blonde. This is good because it won't look as harsh as someone who has black eyebrows. You could always lighten them too if they make you feel self conscious.
I continually switch my hair from blonde to brown. My natural color is dark brown. Being blonde makes me happy. It is always a good change. Just make sure that you do not end up with orange hair. And you are going to have to moisturize it a lot if you need to bleach it to turn it blonde. (which with that red in your hair I am sure you will have to)

pictures can be deceiving with lights and etc......your hair appears to be a little auburn, i do not suggest blonde all over your are to fair and you would look more washed out even w/ your beautiful eyes i would suggest a little blonde highlights small pieces and maybe even low-lights( a few shades lighter than your own hair) but i think you would be very dissatisfied with blonde all over i have been a cosmetologist for 25 yrs and top cosmetologist for my state in competition

Use a Purple toner in your hair. It will get the yellow out since it is the opposite of yellow.
you have to use a purple toner in your hair to counter act the yellow.
when you have your hair colored alway use shampoo and conditioner for colored hair...never use a regular shampoo coz they strip your hair of the color that you had paid for in the salon...
The best thing to do is to go to walmart and buy hair dye removal kit and use that.it should work!?!if not then the salon will work!?!

Contrary to the advise of others... many blondes have a blue base. Anything labeled an Ash blonde is blue base, and all platinums are a Violet blue base. This is what gives blondes that ';white'; hue to it, or lack of gold for deeper blondes. I use Ash based blondes any time I lift anybody with a deep blonde or brown to a light blonde, and then many times even follow with a blue base toner to still cancel out yellows (blondes are composed of yellow tones and blue cancels out yellow on the color wheel). It depends what you are trying to accomplish. Lightening all over? Or toning down the highlights? The best thing to do to keep it looking natural is to just put in a few more highlights. You could use powder lightner (bleach) with 20 volume (6%) peroxide and you should get some nice blonde highlights.
EDIT: if she has never colored her hair before then yes, tint will lift it up to 4 levels depending on what developer you use. 20 volume developer will lift 1 level which probably won't show up very much. 30 volume lifts 2 levels and 40 volume lifts 3-4 levels. it's best to use a color with an ash base to fight the gold as you lighten. i would still recommend doing highlights instead of an all over color because it will be more subtle and natural looking and you will deal with less upkeep than if you do her whole head. If you are getting color at Sally's the staff there should be able to help you pick out a color.

Need to match my medium strawberry blonde hair color with a drug store brand dye?
Before I started to go gray, my hair color was a natural strawberry blonde. I am 44 now, and almost completely gray (if I let it go natural). I have been having my hair dyed at a salon for years in order to try to keep my natural color. Now, I need to try to save some money and would like do it myself at home. I know that my hair colorist has told me in the past that she uses a combination of ';7'; and ';8'; on my hair. I don't know what combination of those -- or even how that translates into products that I could purchase myself, and I don't feel comfortable asking her (so please don't offer that as a suggestion). Is there anyone out there with coloring experience that could recommend a hair dye and/or a hair dye combination that I could buy and apply myself? I have, in the past, touched up my roots with a medium blonde product -- which blends well in-between colors -- but I don't really want completely blonde hair overall. Your mum is right its PUREE Orange / Ginger ! No blonde in it ATALL It doesnt look professionally done if its supposed to be blonde. I would stay dark But if you want to go blonder get different shades of blonde throught it. Also i think your eyebrows are a bit too dark to carry off the whole blonde look. Your mum is right its PUREE Orange / Ginger ! No blonde in it ATALL It doesnt look professionally done if its supposed to be blonde. I would stay dark But if you want to go blonder get different shades of blonde throught it. Also i think your eyebrows are a bit too dark to carry off the whole blonde look. My natural color is light brown, but I've been dying it light blonde for years. Mostly myself, but sometimes at the saloon. I've been using the same color /brand for about a year, but recently tried a different brand. So I've been dyeing my hair since around 7th grade, I'm now a freshman in college and I desperately want my natural hair color back. My hair is a pretty light blonde right now with highlights very much like this..

My hair is almost up to my elbows and I've always had long thick hair, but I considered cutting it much shorter.. probably a long bob.. but my hair is very thick and wavy so I'm not too sure about that..

My hair has been dyed once a month, all over, with a permanent hair color for years. Needless to say, this has caused a lot of damage and breakage to my hair. I want to stop dying it and let it grow out. Its been 6 weeks since I last colored and my roots are growing out. My roots are probably 1-2 shades darker than the rest of my hair. My natural hair color is a level 7, approximately, the very ends are a level 10 (grown out bleach, so I know that won't fade), and the middle part that hasn't been bleached, just dyed blonde, is a level 8.5. I'm just wondering if the part I just dyed blonde (didn't bleach), will fade close to my natural hair color over time? Right now the roots don't contrast sharply with the color at all, and I want to know if the color will fade so my look will be even more seamless. I have light brown hair with blonde streaks in it naturally. I want my hair to be blonde all over. It seems like every time I try to get it blonde, my hair turns a coppery redish brown. People say it looks good on me, but I want it to be blonde not red. Last time I tried Honey Blonde and Light Ash Blonde (it looked nothing like the picture on the box) and now I want to try and get it to be golden blonde, but I don't want to have to bleach it. I am looking for pictures of dirty blonde hair color. Box blonde hair color?
I regularly lighten my hair at the salon, and right now its a darkish golden blonde. I still want it to be lighter but I would like to avoid wasting money, so I bought a box of Loreal lightening in a light blonde shade. you could get some lowlights in ur hair, either dark %26amp; obvious ones (crazy colours or just chocolate brown/coffee brown), or lighter ones that would blend in (ie. dark blonde/light brown %26amp;/or honey blonde kind of tones), %26amp; u could either get them all over, or just underneath ur hair sort of thing. That way you could see if u like darker hair on yourself or not, if u do like it, then get more coloured streaks put in, %26amp; if u dont like it, then u still have half of ur hair blonde, %26amp; u just slowly dye the dark bits back to ur platinum, just a few ideas.

If your daughter has Black Hair, a regular blonde hair color won't do the trick, instead it will make black hair only slighty lightened with reddish tones( reddish Brown) . Regular Blonde hair color is only effective with those who have natural blonde or light brown hair. It is best to use a pre-lightener and bleach out the hair, and then use the desired regular blonde hair color. First try using a hair color remover to remove the black hair dye. If your daughter has natural Medium-Dark Brown hair use Bleach, like for example Clairol Born Blonde Maxi, or Loreal Feria #205 Extra Bleach Blonde. Try Someting like a Revlon Color silk # 80 Light Ash Blonde or Clariol Nice N'easy #127 Medium Blonde, they will do wonders, and they are gentle even on bleached hair . SO basically the darker the Brown the less regular blonde hair color will work. When in doubt Bleach, then use regular blonde hair dye. I strongly recommend Ash Blonde shades, because they do wonders. Speaking of revlon colorsilk, I also reccommend using Revlon Colorsilk Blonding. The 3 three blonding kits I mentioned really work. It may pain you but to take her to a Salon and have them put in Highlights ( foil) to break up the Black but if they offer to do the whole head say no because they will want to Bleach the whole head and her hair may fall out not to mention the straw factor. That can also take about 5 hours to do and thats just to get the black out. make sure you find a place that has a ';Certified Colorist'; its someone who just does that Color.As a mother myself sometimes we go to '; ILL do it myself I can do it'; dont it will make it worse. Go online as well and put in ';Certified Hair colorist in your search, dont forget to put in your area. GOOD LUCK

It will either fall out, her scalp will bleed or become irritated, or if you're lucky, it will only lift the color to an ugly copper shade. Go to a salon in a few days and have them bleach it back to her original shade.

Going from medium blonde hair coloring to a darker auburn/chestnut. Can I mess this up somehow? ?
I've done my own coloring for several years and it looks good; however, I want to go darker. I wonder if adding darker color over blonde and a few blonde highlights could result in a mess? It's pretty impossible to mess this up! (I should know- I just went from ';Born Blonde'; to Dark Brown 2 weeks ago.)
Just follow the instructions for ';new color'; and go for it!
It is rather messy compared to bleaching.... my puppy has a few spots of fur that match my hair now... and make sure you have 2 wet towels that you can wipe up spills with- 1 for your face and 1 for counters, mirrors, etc...

My family is hesitant about my choice in color. My sister is a hairdresser and likes my hair dark, but I'm wanting somethingg a little different from my normal brown. Could I pull off a blonde, or Blondish hair color? and If not, what color would look nice?

i hate when ppl dye their hair and dont match lol , like this girl i worked with had beautiful red hair and she died her hair black and left her eyebrows red ... it looked retarded, so yeah, dye them brows! your eyebrows arnet too too dark though so it might be alright.

Hi! Maybe you can just add some highlights or something? The only reason I say that is because I just went sort of strawberry blonde from dark brown, and even though I like it, it STINKS dealing with roots.
That's the only reason I would suggest not going all blond. But whatever you choose it'll look nice!

hmmm i wouldn't go all over blonde i would gradually work my way up to it. do some lighter shades of what you have and add some highlights in a dirty blonde. keep going a little lighter and then by summer you should be blonde. if you go all over blonde right now it may be to much of a sudden change. you'll freak and cry and hate your hair.
a dark blonde might work okay but i don't think it would be your best look. your natural color is pretty. don't go dark (like black or auburn) that would make you look washed out. i think a strawberry blonde would be really pretty on you.
you will look nice in any color. my suggestion is that you have serious highlights put in and maybe it will boost the strawberry in your color.

thing is to dye dark hair lighter you have to use stronger chemicals (probably bleach) and these will dry out your hair

Also hair color from the drugstores does not give you the base (Neutral, Gold, Ash, etc.) or the level (1-10, 1 darkest, 10 lightest) So you may be actually using a hair color with a gold base without realizing.

I am just in need of finding a store bought light blonde haircolor that blondes your hair without brassy color. I have done the first step with the bleaching which left me with the yellowish blonde brassy color. But tomorrow I would like to go out and get the blonde color that will end up ultra light blonde without the brassy yellow. Any suggetions???? Ok, this is why you should not buy your hair color from a store, because box dyes don't list what base the dye has. Many boxes just have a neutral base or a golden base, which is going to add those brassy tones to your hair. Besides that, box dyes only have a 20 vol developer in each one, which means that your hair color won't lift more than about 2 levels, and if you are darkening your hair, it will just be too harsh of a developer. This is why you should go to a real beauty supply such as Sally Beauty so you can pick a cool blonde shade (blue/violet or green base). Sally Beauty is very affordable, I guarantee you that your dye will just a couple dollars more than the box, but at least your hair color will look good in the end. For the future, you can just use a high lift blonde color with a 40 vol developer, and your hair color will end up bleach blonde and you can skip the bleaching process. If your hair is already at the level that you want, then you can just tone it with a cool blonde toner and skip the dyeing which will damage your hair even more.Best store bought blonde hair color W/No Brass?
There are lots of ';bottle blondes'; in my family. They all swear by L'oreal Preference. Mom and Sis use the ';ash blonde'; types which never look brassy... and you would swear that it's the real thing!

If you go to sallys beauty salon and ask for 40 proof hair bleach and developer, that will die your hair light without the yellowish color and it works fast you can see your hair change as soon as you put it in. Dont use it too much though cause its really strong. Plus with dark hair theres not a good chance anything else will come out without the yellowish color.
just go to the professionals. its worth it.
